Cammie Windley grew up in the swamps of South Alabama. As a true multimedia artist, she draws inspiration from all things both shiny and dirty (e.g. Mardi Gras). Forgoing a traditional education, she earned her Mrs in 1999 and spent the next many years raising her two children and picking up new crafting skills in an effort to maintain her sanity. It was during these formative years of her artistry that her style began to emerge. Her creations reflect a warm embrace of the entropy around her as could only come from a mother. Upon moving to Birmingham in 2007, she began volunteering with the Alabama Ballet. Working under veteran costume director Wendy Gamble, she learned to hone her crafting skills and master the chaos of her creations. While crashing a wedding in 2014, Cammie met NYC performance artist Bailey Nolan. Bailey eagerly took the budding young artist under her wing, and pushing Cammie face first out of her comfort zone, she tricked Cammie into actually participating in performances when she thought she would only be making headpieces. Her headpieces steal the show at performances across the country. The New York Times referred to one of her creations as “approximating something Bob Mackie might have created for Carol Burnett”.
